Lightning - Step by Step by Yuuza Lightning - Step by Step by Yuuza
A step by step of my last drawing Lightning by Yuuza

It was done in Photoshop CS6, with a wacom bamboo tablet (an old version, not the ones sold now), and it took me 3-4 hours.
Just in case you were wondering, i used the 'liquify' tool to correct the shape of the head from panel 5 to panel 6. In the last panel i added color effects, but other than that, no extra pizzazz was added. Also, i drew this on 4 layers. I hope this is helpful to you! <33333

I really like it when more experienced artists do these things XD it gives us beginners something to work towards. Thanks you and I really like the final product!

You can always use a eyedropper to see which colors i used where. ANd i pick colors from the color picker, i don't use swatches and pre-defined colors. I prefer the freedom to change colors and never pick the same one, i think it gives life to a drawing. Using swatches creates a sort of monocromy, not enough color variation for my taste ^^

I like how the nose in the first step looks bigger, but once it was added with some color and shaded it looks thinner

Yea, in sketches/lineart, the nose always appears to be bigger, that's why manga artists don't draw noses, because mangas are black and white and drawing a nose would make it look huge, so they do these techniques where they draw it really small, or just the bottom part etc
But in shading with no lineart, the nose can be biger, or normal human size and not look huge :D

A sketch for which I'd need the help of Satan to make it look like that......

Because even if the internet is endless, it's still hard to find ANY tuts that don't have drawing skills as prerequisites.

Shoutout to almost anyone how does beginner tutorials: Why would we search for beginner tutorials when we already have basic drawing skills?

I think it's to build up our skills and knowledge of how to do something, we also search for beginner tutorials because we have never done the things in the tutorial we have searched for. :)

I love it when pro-artists post step-by-step images like this.  It's really insightful, especially to those of us who are not artistically inclined.  Maybe this is a stupid question, but are each of those steps done their own layer?  Do you merge any layers as you progress towards your finished image?  Are there any procedural tricks that you make use of in Photoshop that help you out?

Thanks for posting this.

Hello :D
I actually don't merge my art, only maybe at the very end if i have to add blurr or sharpen which can only be done on one layer. I usually keep everything on separate layers: background, skin, clothes, hair :D
The tricks are, i use effects and actions that give certain warming effects at the end that make a rather dull-ish drawing pop ^^
