you didn't think i stopped drawing digitally did you? i started this drawing a few months ago but stopped because i had no idea how to color it. Recently i started drawing in cell shading style for work so i tried that and i am frankly quite happy with the result. I forgot how awesome this style of shading can be it took some 8-10 hours of work, mostly done in Paint Tool Sai, edited in Photoshop download the .psd to check out all the layers, some cell shading is done directly on the layer, some is on separate layers patterns on the kimono are from gimei
If I had to write a critique for this piece (and I hope it will be well accepted and well written from my side ) I'd just say two things. First, I think that the illustration would benefit from some more field depth. E.g. the parts of the dragon you can see in the background should be a little less vivid, with a bit less contrast, as there were an atmospheric filter. This way, the figure would stand out more and the will-o-the-wisps would look brighter as well. My second - small - objection applies to the shadows beneath her. I think that you could apply some more darkness here and there, near to the points where she's actually resting her weight, so that the pose looks more natural, a little less "floating".
Well, this is my first critique ever on DA. I hope I was of help. And of course I'm criticizing a piece which is awesome and far beyond my possibilities
The colors are insane awesome! poison, and yet so sweet! Kind a the style i was looking for, when I started my kitsune outfit :3 Guess my stuff never really works out, they way I want it - But hey, thats what makes it fun!
Well I use to draw what I had in mind, but as I got older I suddenly lost that. I was thinking to much about what to draw, and I still feel its hard just to sit down and doing it. Now when I get to drawing, I just draw and trying not to put to much though into it. It just feels like, I can sense how much fun there is in your drawings - remind me how I felt, when I really got into it :3!
LOL, I never knew what a geisha was until I listened to this song called "Geisha." I was like, alright, cool name until a year later I stumble across the tern, remembered the song and the particular picture used for that song and actually cared to search it up.
