She is a soft-looking girl, so I would not mind the non-contrasted version of this! Great work nevertheless! Amazing attention to detail!

Wow this is very clear and helpful!  ^^ I can't wait to try it!  But I have gimp so I guess I'd have to modify some steps... ^^0

One question, though.  How do you separate each element when you're picking out the important parts?  Do you re-draw your lineart onto each layer? Or do you just copy the lineart and post it in different layers, focusing on a different section for each one, while keeping the background clear so the other layers come through? ...or something like that? ^^0

i'm glad you find it useful :D
i don't neither of those things, when i make the lineart i lower the opacity of the sketch and even color the sketch blue, and then on a new clean layer i draw the lineart. When the lineart is finished i keep that layer on top at all times, and the colored layers underneath it don't have any lineart in them, they are solid color (untill i shade them). The lineart is made on a transparent layer not on a white layer so that means that it's see-through, it's like drawing on transparent plastic, when i color underneath the lineart stays clean and i don't have to be carefull not to ruin it.
I hope you understood something out of what i said here :D

Hello!!!!!
Thank you very much for sharing this!!

I have a question (sorry I'm a dummy I am a dummy! )
what do you do to apply the layer of the speedpaint to each layer of the "color" folder? Is it a layer mode? Doesn't it affect to the background?
sorry for asking so many questions

I've seen many artists do this, first painting in grey and then the color. I've always wondered about that xD

gray is just a random color. It's like, i fill in each strand of hair, not i don't wanna mess that up when i shade right? so i lock the pixels. It can be grey, purple, it doesn't matter.
After i make the speedpaint i copy the speedpaint layer for each element layer on the color folder. Then i pres Alt in between hair layer and speedpaint layer to apply the speedpaint to my random grey layer but keep the pixels (strands of hair) as i made them. in paint tool sai this techniqut is using the "layer clip" function.
For example. I draw a dot, i want the shape of the dot without being concerned about color, so i draw a dot with a random color. when i make the speedpaint i want to only care about colors and lighting without minding shape. Like this hair is blue, i don't care that the strands go here and there i wanna try out this blue and this other blue, just splash it on top without caring that i am not drawing within the lineart lines. after i am happy with the colors, i take the color layer and clip it to the grey layer that has the perfect shape. Then i merge the layers and the result is a layer that stays within the lines and with the color i want. But the color isn't perfect because i just splashed it so i make small adjustments by color picking and getting rid of any unwanted color. But this is easy because my pixels are locked. That means that no matter how i splash my brush, it will always stay within the initial shape i made at the beginning with a gray.

i'm glad you understood :D i didn't always use this technique, i used to shadw without a speedpaint, just color each separate layer with their appropriate color. But i found that in the old way the colors didn't match very well, and looked a bit cut out. While a speedpaint allows you to experiment in the color and lighting department, and because the speedpaint is on one layer you don't have to jump from one layer to another if you want to add a new shadow or lighting etc
no problem :D

Yep, I've always created a layer for each color, and as you said, some of them don't fit and "pop out" Sweating a little...
This will make my life easier happy cry XD
